What is MIPS?

MIPS stands for Multi-directional Impact Protection System. This is a technology designed inside the helmet to reduce rotational forces on the brain during a crash in which there is a twisting force or glancing blow. Rotational forces are the biggest cause of concussions, even more dangerous than higher force straight on impacts. This additional layer to the helmet slips when hit so that the helmet absorbs the rotation instead of the brain inside the head. If you are at risk for concussions or skiing or riding at a high level, MIPS should be something you highly consider.
